The suburb of Novinskoye (Zemonovinskoye) got its name from the Novinsky Vvedensky Virgin Monastery, located on a high hill at the confluence of the Presnya River in Moscow-River and abolished in 1764 by decree of Catherine II. The Presnya River (Sinichka), one of the small rivers flowing across the city, was taken to the underground collector in 1908, its name remained in the city toponymy. The water of the Presnya River was considered the cleanest in Moscow.
Along with Maryina Roshchka and the girl’s field, Novinskoye was a favorite place for the festivities of Muscovites during Easter holidays. Wooden swings were erected here, tents and tents were placed for performances and trade.
