The artist is Alekseev
In 1795-1797 f.I AM. Alekseev made a trip to the south of Russia with the aim of “removing the types of localities” visited by Empress Catherine II in 1787 during his trip to Russia. Based on sketches from nature made during the trip, several large paintings were performed.
Nikolaev, the administrative center of Novorossia, was founded in 1787-1791 by the prince of g.AND. Potemkin as a ship shipyard, since 1789 he became a city. The city square with the first buildings is represented: guardhouse, cathedral. The lady in the stroller in the foreground was considered some researchers an image of traveling Catherine II.
