Pavel I (1754-1801) – Russian emperor since 1796, son of Grand Duke Peter Fedorovich (Peter III) and Grand Duchess Ekaterina Alekseevna (Ekaterina II). “Russian Hamlet”, as it was called, is the bottom of the tragic figures on the Russian throne. Having entered the throne after the death of his mother, who wanted to erect his grandson of Grand Duke Alexander Pavlovich to the throne, Paul I sought to oppose his course to Yekaterininsky in everything. Its despising character, as well as measures taken by him to limit the privileges and liberties of the nobility, caused dissatisfaction with the aristocracy. On the night of March 11, 1801, Emperor Paul I was killed in his newly built front residence – Mikhailovsky castle. The Grand Duke is depicted with the orders of St. Andrew the First -Called (tape and star) and St. Anna (Cross).
