The area depicted was called “silver” according to the settlement of coins located on the banks of the Yauza River. Silver baths, one of the large number of Moscow baths, existed from a long time ago, on the “Godunovo drawing” of the early 1600s were called “public”. The habit of the Russian people regularly visit baths, the simplicity of morals, accompanying the reception of water procedures, invariably attracted the attention of foreigners visiting Russia. French painter Jean-Batist Leprens (1731–1781), who visited Russia in the 1760s, also created a composition depicting a Russian bathhouse.
