The state of safety before restoration:

Upon admission to restoration, the picture was completely under the old preventive branding, the subframe was absent. In the lower part were two large horizontal breakthroughs. The canvas was partially lost in the corners. The back side had severe pollution, there was an old patch on it, as well as traces of old paper seals. On the front side under the preventive branding, a large number of losses of a colorful layer, rigid breaks and craquelure with raised edges were visible. After removing the old preventive branding, it became clear that the painting is under a thick layer of uneven yellow varnish, and also strongly contaminated.

Complex of the events:

The main task of restoration was the restoration of the integrity of the basis. To do this, the colorful layer at the edges of the breakthroughs was strengthened, the edges of the canvas were reduced with the preservation of weaving and forced by the “VSTOK” method. The back side is cleaned of contaminants, rustle residues, the old patch is removed. Restoration inserts are made to the places of loss of the canvas. Then, to strengthen the base, the picture was duplicated on a new canvas and stretched over the subframe. Restoration soil was summed up on the front of the losing layer. The restoration of varnish transparency through regeneration made it possible to understand how much the yellow film distorts the author’s painting. The thickening of the varnish film revealed the true author’s flavor. At the end, restoration tinting in places of loss of a colorful layer and at the places of the knocked out breakthroughs were completed. Painting is covered with a protective film of varnish.
