The artist is unknown
Circle in. Borovikovsky. Upon admission to the museum, the portrait had the name “Girl in a lilac dress with a dove”. However, then the name was changed, since it was known that in the XVIII – beginning of the 19th century, it was customary to wear small children in the dress of free cut, regardless of the gender of the child. The name of the depicted is not set. To. AT. Mikhailova suggested that it could be Nikolai Mikhailovich Trakhimovsky. According to the d. AND. Rovinsky, in the collection of n. M. Trakhimovsky were several portraits of the brush in. L. Borovikovsky, among whom was a portrait of the Trakhimovsky child with a dove in his hands (Rovinsky. T. III. Stlb. 2046).
In the meeting of the timing there is a portrait close in iconography, previously attributed to Borovikovsky, “a child in a white dress with a dove in his hands” (Zh-3167). In both cases, a significant role in the composition is played by a white dove – a symbol of a pure, innocent soul.
