Grand Duke Pavel Petrovich – the son of Empress Catherine II and Emperor Peter III. From 1796 to 1801, the Russian emperor. Since 1798 – the great grandmaster of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (Maltese Order). Killed by the conspirators as a result of the palace coup on March 11, 1801. N. X. Unknown artist. SPb, 2012. With. 51.

The young Grand Duke is placed in a certain conditional theater environment, where he is the main character. The clothes and hairstyle of the hero are screeched by the gusty wind, but nothing overshadows the calm, concentrated face of the Grand Duke. An elegant servant of the Arapchok, respectfully leaning, brings him as a military leader a helmet decorated with a pen.

Paul pointing with the imperative gesture indicates the stormy sea, in which the ships are fighting with the winds – a hint of glorifying future sea victories. It is depicted in the uniform of the Admiral General of the Fleet-a white military suit embroidered with gold. On top of the Camisole on the Grand Duke, Kiras is worn (ancient protective equipment made of metal that covered the human body). June 19, 1765 Pavel put on it to participate in the Krasnoselian maneuvers. The combination of the Admiral Uniform and Kiirasa is explained by the fact that Pavel was a colonel of the Kirasir regiment, which was called the heirs of the regiment. Judging by Kiras, the heir to the throne on the portrait is 11 years old. Military maneuvers in Red Selo were later the most striking "military" the memory of Pavel Petrovich – it was there that he first happened to go around the troops welcoming him. The future emperor tried to behave as an adult military leader and, before leaving the Red Selo, granted the money to the wounded.
