In 1806, several more famous buildings were launched in the northern capital. Andrei Nikiforovich Voronikhin, a former serf Count Stroganov, began to build a new building of the Mining Institute on the embankment of Vasilievsky Island. The architect proudly looks at the viewer who captured himself in the portrait in the interior of the Stroganov Palace – the physical office performed according to his project. And outside the window opens a view of the dome of the Kazan Cathedral – one of the main creations of Voronikhin.

Voronikhin Andrey Nikiforovich (1759–1814) – Russian architect, representative of classicism. Until 1785 serf count a. With. Stroganova, then released by free. Since 1777 he studied in Moscow promising and miniature painting, as well as architecture (U B. And. Bazhenova and m. F. Kazakova); from 1779 – in St. Petersburg. Made four trips to Russia and Western Europe. Abroad he studied the prospect, landscape painting and architecture. In St. Petersburg he continued to engage in prospects and miniature painting; in 1794. presented a picture in the Academy of Arts, depicting in a promising form the picture gallery of Count Stroganov, and received the title of academician. Early architectural work – decoration of the interiors of the Stroganov Palace in St. Petersburg, 1793; Stroganovskaya cottage on the Black River in St. Petersburg, 1795-1796.

In particular, he was famous for the project and construction of the Kazan Cathedral (1801–1811). From other buildings of Voronikhin, the building of the Mining Institute, the colonnade and the cascade in Peterhof, palaces in Strelna, Gatchina, Pavlovsk, etc. are known.
