For the first time in the annals of Helga (in Russian pronunciation – Olga) it is mentioned in 903 as the wife, whom Prince Igor took from Pskov. According to the Ioakimov Chronicle, it belonged to the family of princes of the Izborsky. After the death of Igor, Druzhin recognized Olga worthy of Svyatoslav, the legal heir to the throne. Having taken the reins of government into her own hands, she showed energy in the pacification of the Drevlyans, who brutally avenged her husband’s death. Since 947, he carried out transformations in the management of the principality, streamlining the collection of taxes in the lands subject to Kyiv. The beginning of stone urban planning in Rus’ is associated with the name of Olga, but the first temples appeared with her. According to most sources, in 957 (in the “Tale of Bygone Years” it is called 955) in Constantinople adopted a baptism under the name of Elena. (TO. F.)
