Under Vladimir Monomakh, Kievan Rus again gained military power. Russian troops won new victories over their former enemies, primarily the Polovtsy. Then, according to legend, the so -called Monomakh hat – one of the main symbols of the Russian autocracy also fell into Rus’. This happened when Vladimir Monomakh sent the mighty rati to Greek possessions. The Byzantine emperor, wishing to reconcile with the Russians, sent Metropolitan Neophytus to Monomakh and many noble people with gifts. Among the gifts were a cross of life -giving wood and a fulfate bowl, which once belonged to the Roman emperor Augustus. In addition, the neophytus brought the regalia of the emperor Konstantin Monomakh, who came to Vladimir grandfather: the Golden Tsar’s crown, the power, chain and ancient bars, which subsequently decorated the sovereigns during the wedding on the throne. Neofit solemnly anointed Vladimir to the kingdom, putting the crown on his head and calling him the king. This legendary historical episode was the basis of the plot of the Ugryumov canvas. (WITH.
