At the same time, a new understanding of the nature and picturesque means of its expression, which went in the direction of overcoming academic canons, which affects the location of light and dark plans, in some dry painting, has matured in it. And at the same time, traditions are felt in it "sixties": frank denunciation and clearly expressed narrative. The Russian village is portrayed in its real appearance, without idealization: dilapidated, dilapidated huts, skinny cowsheds, impassable dirt. So the village lived after a recent reform. However, like other landscape painters of critical realism, the artist saw and perceived the beauty of Russian nature, which was associated for him with the beauty of the spirit of the people, with ideas about the Motherland.
