The state of safety before restoration:

The visually determined state of safety of the picture when admitting to the restoration was satisfactory: the author’s base was duplicated on another canvas, the condition of the soil and the colorful layer is stable, the tension of the picture on the subframe is good. However, the author’s painting was completely hidden by several layers of varnish darkened from the time, greatly changing the author’s flavor. Studies of the visible luminescence of the colorful layer in UV rays showed the presence of a large number of records applied both in varnish – recent and between lacquers, that is, that appeared for a long time and at different times. The records were located both against the background and on the images of the hand, torso, draperies. The portrait looked dark and colorless. Trial clearings showed that under the lower layers of records, widely overlapping the author’s painting, there are solid oil overloads of gray color. The condition of the author’s colorful layer under mastic is satisfactory, there are only minor point losses of painting.

Complex of the events:

First of all, the surface of the painting was washed from pollution and then the surface is regenerated. The subsequent disclosure of the author’s painting was carried out in layers. At first, the notes lying on the varnish were removed, then the varnish threw and the records lying in the varnish layers were removed and deleted. At the same time, by additional flushing, inter -haired pollution was removed. Then, mechanically, a late oil gray overgrown was removed under the microscope with an eye scalpel under a microscope. The removal of yellow layers of varnishes and vast late records made it possible to reveal a real flavor of author’s painting, fill the picturesque space with air, eliminate the rigidity of the touches of the figure and the background. At the final stage, restoration tints were performed in the places of loss, the picture was covered with a protective layer of varnish.
