Shishkin Ivan Ivanovich (1832, Elabuga-1898, St. Petersburg). Painter-landscape painter. Academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts (since 1865). He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of A. N. Mokritsky (1852-1856), at the Academy of Arts C. M. Vorobyeva (1856-1860). Academy professor (since 1873). Improved in Germany, France (1862-1865), visited the Czech Republic, worked in Zurich in the workshop of R. Color, where I mastered the etching technique. Member of the Aquafortists Society. Member of the partnership of mobile art exhibitions.
The artist wrote portraits of Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin several times (1832–1898) – the largest master of realistic landscape, who has devoted his whole life to the creation of images of native Russian nature. They were united by friendly relations, a community of understanding the role of art, joint work in the partnership of mobile art exhibitions. The image of the landscape painter emphasizes openness, simplicity and naturalness, but at the same time thoroughness and reliability. This portrait, in which the author refuses any accessories, is characteristic of the artist’s work with the accentuate of the moral, ethical principle in the assessment of the personality of the portrait. In its monumental expressiveness, it is not inferior to the best works of the master.
