The state of safety before restoration:
The portrait entered the restoration with significant deformations of the base caused by defects of the subframe and the processes of natural aging (drying out) of parchment. The edges, due to their insufficient width, were partially broken; There were small breaks and loss of parchment along the edges; Numerous rust spots from nails attached to the subframe. In the center of the right under the author’s layer of pastel, the edges had a hole from the production of a parchment base with halo. The picturesque surface was worn out and superficially contaminated.
Complex of the events:
During the restoration process, the portrait was removed from the subframe, the back side was cleaned of pollution. The parchment base was plasticized, leveled in a plane with a long press with a gradual load. The holes and loss of the base are filled with parchment; The edges are complemented by dense Japanese paper Okawara 45 g \ sq.cm; The portrait is mounted on a new subframe. Scuffs and scratches in a colorful layer tinted with pastel pencils “Derwent”.
