Ekaterina II Alekseevna (Ugre. Sofia Frederick Amalia, Princess of the Angalt Code of Code; 1729–1796) – since 1743 in Russia, from 1745 – the wife of Grand Duke Peter Fedorovich (future emperor Peter III). She came to the autocratic authorities in 1762 as a result of the palace coup, to death in 1796 – the Empress and the autocrat of the All -Russian.
At the heart of the picturesque image of Catherine II in the form of a bas -relief – a miniature portrait F. De Mayes, written in 1785. Similar paintings were also in the collection of the famous St. Petersburg collector with. N. Koznakova (1863–1939), who died in Paris, and in the meeting and. F. Heine in St. Petersburg (Kat. Tauride exhibition. Ext. IV. No. 766). This portrait Grisilya, which was popular, was engraved in 1785 g. And. Skorodumov.
Ferdinand de Mayes (no life dates are set). Amateur artist, a Flemish native, retired “regiment of Prince de Linya”, came to Russia about 1783 and gained popularity in aristocratic circles with his miniature portraits. He performed allegorical compositions for the journey of Catherine II through the southern provinces of Russia and accession to the throne.
