Self-portrait of Orlovsky is a software work of a romantic artist. Academician of painting Orlovsky portrayed himself in the complete equipment of the Caucasian warrior (most likely Circassian), which he was never in reality. The costume corresponds to the heroic expression on the face, a tense pose with a sharp turn of the head. The theme of the East, characteristic of European romanticism, was often associated with the Caucasus in Russia (later the Caucasian theme attracted Mikhail Lermontov and other writers of the romantic direction).
