Rainbow

The artist is Savrasov

The first half of the 1870s for Savrasov became the period of the highest maturity and depth of creativity.

The landscape “Rainbow” owns a prominent place among works in which the talent of the Savrasov-living signal is especially manifested. In pure, unusually fresh painting, the very state of nature is expressed here, and that direct lyrical feeling that is born before her face in the soul of man. The theme of the rural landscape received in the picture a simple and internally completed interpretation. A small village, spread out on the river bank near the slope, as if merges with its life with the life of the surrounding nature. Green slopes above the river, backwaters, the front -up rocket and the front plan are difficult to imagine without these huts, hedges, clay paths, without a peasant woman, leisurely rising from the river with buckets with buckets. The picture feels like a distant echo of the first Venetian discoveries of the Russian village with its genuine poetry. Savrasov’s folk life is inseparable from the life of nature. The poetic meaning of the picture is expressed in the marginal humanity of the landscape image, the immediacy of his experience, in the “secondaryness” of the greens and transparency of the air after the newly passed summer rain. The general feeling of purity and lightness inherent in the picture finds its climax in the motive of the rainbow, lit up against the background of clouds.
