The state of safety before restoration:

Upon entering the restoration, the picture consisted of six different fragments, each of which was sealed with two layers of thick paper on the front side. After its removal, it became clear that all six fragments are joined by each other and form a whole finished work. At the edges of the sections there were significant scree of the colorful layer and soil, the connection of the colorful layer with the soil and the basis was broken. The deep decomposition of a strongly yellowed multilayer old varnish created a dense filter that did not allow to see the picturesque features of the work.

Complex of the events:

The main task that had to be solved was to combine six disparate fragments in order to recreate a whole work from individual pieces. The colorful layer and soil on each of the fragments were strengthened, after which they were connected alternately by the “VSTOK” method. In this case, it was necessary to strictly monitor the coincidence of not only the threads of the base, but also the pattern of all the details, so that the image was not disturbed even in the little things. After that, in the collected state, the picture was duplicated on a new canvas, which was supposed to finally record the canvas compiled from pieces. Restoration soil is brought to the joints. Displacement of yellow varnish and removal of records restored the author’s flavor in the picture, returned the landscape the color perspective and multifaceted. Toning along the seams, in the places of fragmentation of fragments, finally returned to the picture a previously lost integrity.
